Urging the EU not to reopen Deforestation Regulation

In March 2026, VOCAL co-signed an open letter to European Commissioner Jessika Roswall , urging the European Commission not to reopen the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) following its scheduled April review. The letter — organized by the EU Sustainable Supply Chains Coalition and signed by over 30 companies and civil society organizations, including Nestlé, Ferrero, Tony’s Chocolonely, Rainforest Alliance, and Solidaridad — warns that reopening the regulation for a third time would undermine business certainty, erode trust in EU regulatory commitments, and put at risk the significant investments already made by companies and producer countries in compliance. The signatories call instead for a focus on timely implementation, clearer guidance, and adequate support for smallholder farmers and producer countries.
